Mt Martha Community House on the Esplanade, over-looking a sparkling Bay on a glorious afternoon in late February was the ‘picture perfect’ setting for the ‘High Tea by the Sea’ organised in memory of Katrina for family and friends to come together in a spirit of fun and fellowship.
As the guests started to arrive just after 2.00 pm, despite the anticipation of a relaxing, enjoyable get together, little could prepare them for the ‘wow’ factor of such a lavish and spectacular display of finger food s and gourmet cakes presented so professionally by Sweet Sugar Treats.
The occasion was magnificent in its presentation: there were colour –coordinated table cloths, a dazzling array of antique china crockery for each of the 60- plus guests, beautifully arranged flowers and the many delightful temptations for everyone to savour over and over again!
Singer, actor, professional speaker, music teacher and mother, Hilary Henshaw generously gave her time and amazing talent in a 25 – minute performance that included a preview of her new cabaret.
Guests then mixed freely in the large room after hearing from Jo about the many achievements in Katrina’s name over the past 12 months. These included
- Annual Visy Award
- Genazzano FCJ College Award
- Relay For Life Cancer Council Research Grant
- Film Night and resultant ‘Room to Read’ project in Nepal
- Grant made to Windermere Child and Family Services
Special thanks are extended to Toni and Steve Curtis and their families for the tremendous amount of voluntary hard work they put in to ensure the event was of such quality and highly successful.
Thanks also to the other committee members of Katrina’s Sparkle Fund particularly Ngaire, Teghan and Siobhan who devoted so much time to helping set up for the event.
It was wonderful of Zoe Van Gullick and her mum and sister to support the ‘High Tea by the Sea’. Zoe was the recipient of the inaugural ‘Katrina Wakeling Award for Physical Education’ at Genazzano College.
“I have it hanging in my room and it inspires me to do my best every day” Zoe
Mornington Council, through its Bookings Dept. and Centre Manager of Mt Martha Community House Mary, are also gratefully acknowledged for their generosity and assistance in offering the magnificent venue at no charge.
Not only was a wonderful afternoon enjoyed by all but, with the support and donations of Sweet Sugar Treats and our other sponsors we raised $ 1300.00 towards Katrina’s Sparkle Fund.
